Discomfort from the Bra

I know that sometimes your bra can create discomfort sometimes, especially if you have underwires. sometimes the fabric is just a little thick in the areas that your brace pushes. That's annoying and painful. Well the other day I found a fabulous solution!

I found in the store a camisole, with a built in bra! It has that shelf, then over that (since that's obviously not enough support) it has a pad to go over each. They come in all colors. They really help because their's no harsh lines, plus, their soft and stretchy and work perfectly with my brace.

Sorry my arm looks really uh..odd from the lighting.

New design

Hey all! What do you think of the new design? Too much pink? I know..I'll fix it later.

I'm so sorry I haven't be able to post much. I've been terrible busy. But, I thought I could show you a few things that could help make an outfit look better !

these accessories help distract the person and divert their attention to it, not to your body shape, plus you can use them to make any outfit look unique!

This flower bow can be found in any fasion accessory store, you can put it in your hair or on your shirt! (claire's)

These tanktops are useful to put over the brace, but under a shirt to hide some of the harsh lines that the brace gives.

Obviously you can't wear just the tanktop since it shows in the back.(target/walmart)

Cute striped shirt (Kohls/Macy's) that hides everything going over the tanktop. The pocket in the frons serves duo purpose: To keep your hands warm and to help cover up the square shape.

The back of the shirt. Tho it's quite formfitting, the hood on the back hides the top strap. and the middle strap is almost not there, and the bottom one is hardly there either, if it is, It will just look like a wrinkle in the tank-top underneath.

It looks like I'm standing crooked but I'm actually just cocked one leg. Anyways, cute shirt that's loose yet very feminine. (Forever 21)

These tights look black but they're actually navy(but I guess both colors work) and they go with the above shirt. Very cute for fall styles and you have a TON of flexability with the tights. you can cut them to the length you want, choose the pattern you want, and since they're so stretchy, they fit right over your brace. Even if they do slip off, they'll still stay in place. (Delias)

And this is the full view of the outfit.

So girls, very cute stuffs, and it all hides the brace quite well!

Embarrassing Comments!

It happens to me alot. People comment on why my stomach/butt is so hard. What do I say?

"Oh haha I have abs(a butt) OF STEAL!"

"No really..."

"It's just a back brace cuz I have scoliosis."

Act like it's not a big deal. Cuz if you do act like it's a big deal, it will appear as if it's some big juicy piece of gossip they can spread around with people.

Just hold your head high, and maybe people will go "hey! Ther's something different about her!"

IF they do make fun of you...or tell people..or make mean comments about it, just look at them with a strait face and be like "okay." just make it look like you aren't embbarrassed by what they say. Whatever they day and do can't bring you down! They will stop faster and realize that what they're saying isn't working.

Dressing up

Dressing up for a party or church...now that's a little tricky. What I suggest are tunics or loose shirts:

I got both of these at forever 21, but tyou can get them at any teenager fasion store:

You can hardly tell there's a plastic box underneath my shirt!:)

What I like about this shirt is it looks as if I still have a woman form, despite the fact that my brace hides it.

The back of a 2nd shirt

The stretch band at the bottom of this shirt gives you flexability to fit it to your brace the way you need to.

Private School Clothes

If you go to a private school, then you're very familiar with uniforms. When I got my brace, it made it that much harder that I had to wear a uniform, whereas if I wore what i wanted, I could've just worn t-shirts and stretchy waiste pants.

But not with a uniform. I had to get a size up in everything.

My skirt is originally size 14, but I had to get a 16. When this happens, it's often too long or wide. So I go to a tailor(someone who alters clothes) so he could fit my skirt the way I wanted it to. You can get it hemmed, like I got mine, and it will be shorter. You can get it "taken in" and it will become thinner.

Another thing that really helped me was a jacket. I wore a spirit jacket/ sweatshirt and it covered it up perfectly! Nothing showing.

Obviously things are gonna change a bit, but we can make it work!

About This Blog:)

Greetings friends! I've created a blog to help girls get through scoliosis. I have scoliosis myself, I've been in a brace for 6 months, and I'm on my second brace.

I'll give you advice on what to wear, how to respond to embarrassing comments, and my own personal experiences.

If you think you're all alone in this, you're not! Trust me, I thought I was the only one, but I have at least 3 friends who have it.

Don't be embarrassed if you think it's a big deal. IT IS a big deal, braces are uncomfortable, and sometimes quite painful, and they change the way you live. I would know, I'm half dis-abled in this thang!

I live in the US, so some of my stores might be different from yours. But I'll still try to help you as best I can!

If you have scoliosis, please comment and tell me your story! I'd love to hear...I'll be posting mine pretty soon! Don't be afraid, it's nothing to be ashamed of:)
